At the heart of the Gracie Barra Family’s extraordinary success over the years is our strong philosophy and mission as a group, a foundation which our masters laid many years ago, but is constantly being reinforced by the great people that make our community. Jiu-Jitsu is a beautiful art, and we have a vision of how it should be taught as a means for individual development going beyond the competitive realm. To achieve this vision, we must remember to come together as a family, always putting the team in front of individual. For that, we will fight to the end for what we believe is right.

GB Calgary was built from the love of its owners for the Gentle Art and for Gracie Barra. After many years of training Jiu-Jitsu with Gracie Barra in Brazil, moving to Calgary and not having a GB here was definitely difficult. After putting a lot of thought into it and doing a lot of research, it was decided, in the middle of the pandemic, that having a place like Gracie Barra for Calgarians to train, with a great atmosphere and a family-friendly environment, would deeply benefit the community and help relieve some of the stress and pain caused by such difficult times.
Carrying on the spirit of brotherhood/sisterhood, integrity and development, which are at the core of Gracie Barra's mission, GB Calgary established itself as the premier Jiu-Jitsu academy in Calgary. That was made possible not only due to the great quality of Jiu-Jitsu taught and the well-structured classes, but also because of our belief that Jiu-Jitsu is a powerful tool to change people's lives. Since we opened our doors, we have seen many people's lives being changed. We have seen people overcome anxiety, depression, addiction, etc. with the help of Jiu-Jitsu and the GB Calgary community, and we take pride in the fact that we are a people-centered gym, truly offering JIU-JITSU FOR EVERYONE, and everything we do is focusing on that. As coach Allan always tells the staff at GB Calgary: "every time someone walks through our doors and we don't do our very best to show them how Jiu-Jitsu can change their lives, we are doing a disservice to our community".
This mentality has lead to great success which is now translating into a new location in Calgary to reach even more people and communities. Soon, GB Calgary will open its doors in the Northwest of the city, seeking to train the body, mind and spirit through the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction.
